Laconia---Rita Louise Garner, 79, of Laconia, NH, died on September 4, 2009 at the Golden View Nursing Home in Meredith, NH, after a brief illness.

Known to her friends as Louise, she was born on February 15, 1930, in Waterville, Maine, to Luce and Bernard DesVeaux. Louise attended public schools in Waterville, ME, and earned her High School diploma 30 years later in an adult education course in Laconia, NH.

Louise worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 20 years for the Belknap County Home, where she was known for her compassion toward the residents. She retired in 1995, and has been active in the Laconia and Belmont Senior centers, offering rides to those who needed them for medical appointments and outings. She loved Bingo and card games, called Bingo at the senior centers, and made friends everywhere she went. During her last month at the Golden View Nursing Home in Meredith, she developed a mutual affection for the residents and staff.

She is survived by her husband, Merrill “Spike” Garner; four children, Damian, Vincent, Laurie, and Paul; five grandchildren, Nyssa, Samantha, and Alicia Schmidt, and Emma and Lucas Garner.

Calling hours will be held from 4:00-6:00PM on Thursday, September 10, 2009 in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H.

A Memorial Service will follow at 6:00PM also at the Funeral Home.
