Gerard Fortier

LACONIA - Gerard Fortier, 86, died Aug. 30, 2009, at Lakes Region General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Canada on June 17, 1923 to Elzear and Lydia Fortier. He was raised in Sanford, Maine, enlisted in the U.S. Navy and became a U.S. citizen during World War II.

He will be fondly remembered as an avid Red Sox fan and golfer. He was a loving and devoted father, husband, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Laconia.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma; his loving daughter, Claudia Jeanne and her husband Paul Roy of Nashua; two sons, Robert Fortier of Hudson, and David Fortier of Wilmington, N.C., 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Guillemette; a brother, Ralph Fortier; many nieces and nephew from Sanford, Maine.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, his brother Ronald Fortier, and two sisters Paula and Lillian.

Services will be private followed by a military burial at the State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
