Delora (Lola) Marie (Gonyer) Champagne

Delora (Lola) Marie (Gonyer) Champagne, 77, passed away on September 16, 2009 at Manor Care in Wilmington, DE following a courageous extended recovery from stroke and COPD complications.

Formerly of Lumberton, NC, Wyomissing, PA and Laconia, NH, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Louise (Lavoie) Gonyer of Lakeport, NH who had owned “Gonyer’s Market” at the corner of Laurel St. and Union Avenue for many years.

Delora, better known by the name Lola, attended Laconia High School and Houle Beauty School and was a hairdresser with Rose Morin in Lakeport. She is predeceased by her husband, Leon Gerard Champagne, who died on May 28, 2003.  They were married on August 9, 1952, and made their home in Laconia until 1966. 

She is survived by her three children: Leon Henry Champagne and his wife, Linda, of Wilmington, Delaware; Nina Catherine Dea-Chambers and her husband, Donald, of Alton, New Hampshire; and Peter John Champagne and his wife, Lynn, of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania. There are nine grandchildren: Stephen, Scott, Sarah, and Jonathan Champagne; Zachary, Jeremiah, and Patrick Dea; and David and Amanda Champagne; and 2 great-grandchildren, Jade and Kiefer Champagne.

While in Laconia, they were communicants of St. Joseph Church.  In 1966, they moved to Wyomissing, PA. and subsequently Shelby and Lumberton, NC  where they were very active in their local Catholic Churches.   Lola also served as Cub Scout Den mother, kept a large vegetable garden, enjoyed fishing, bowling and watching baseball, and trips to Myrtle Beach.  She is remembered as a wonderful, giving, and spirited mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend whose humor and love was freely spread to those who were fortunate to be part of her life.

In 2004, Lola moved to Sunrise Assisted living in Wilmington, Delaware, near her oldest son. 

Lola will be cremated in Delaware. 

A Calling Hour will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Wilkinson-Beane- Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, N.H. 03246. 

Following the Calling Hour, a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church St., Laconia, N.H.
Burial will follow in the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia, N.H.
