Laconia-----Charles “Chuck” C. Browning, Jr., 76, of 128 Leighton Avenue North, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Chuck was the widower of beloved wife, Ethel “ Lu” (Griffin) Browning, who died in 2006. Chuck was born March 21, 1933 in Pittsburgh, Penn., the son of Ethel (Haas) and Charles C. Browning, Sr.

Chuck served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and had been employed at New York Life for thirty years, retiring in 1986.

Chuck resided in Virginia for several years and summered in Laconia from 1973 until 1986 when he became a fulltime resident. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Gilford and a former member and director of the Lake Winnisquam Association.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Jon Jurta of Gilford and Tracy and Ned Lane of Ashburn, Virginia; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Christopher and Shannon. In addition to his wife, Chuck was predeceased by his parents and by a son, Michael Charles Browning, in 1975.

There will be no calling hours.

Burial will be private in the family lot located in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Noon at his home on Lake Winnisquam.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Chuck’s memory to aid in the study and research of dementia. Please send your donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, N.H. Office, One Bedford Farms Drive, Suite 105, Bedford, N.H. 03110.
