Belmont-----Roger E. Smith, 79, of 6 Turkey Drive, died at the St. Francis Home, Laconia on Saturday, November 29, 2008.

Mr. Smith was born May 1, 1929 in Sanbornton, the son of Aura B. and Lena (Blackey) Smith.

Mr. Smith served in the New Hampshire National Guard from 1949-1955. He resided in Laconia for many years before moving to Belmont thirty-six years ago. Mr. Smith was employed at Lewis & Saunders for twenty-six years before retiring in June 1984.

Mr. Smith was a former, fifteen-year member of the Moose Club. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, the outdoors and riding his ATV. He loved birds and his cat, “Tinkerbell”.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of forty years, Mary Ann (Allis) Smith, of
Belmont; three sons, Peter Smith of Loudon, Russell Smith of Weare and Mike Smith of Derry; two daughters, Doreen LeClair of Concord and Darleen Smith of Somerville, S.C.; several grandchildren; one great granddaughter, Autumn, several nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was predeceased by two brothers, Elwin Smith and Howard Smith, and by a sister, Elsie Bedard.

There will be no calling hours.

A Private Family Memorial Service will be held at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 10:00AM. Rev. Dr. Robert Robertson, Pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Sanbornton, will officiate.

Spring burial will be in the family lot in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Somersworth, N.H.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Second Baptist Church of Sanbornton, 298 Upper Bay Road, Sanbornton, N.H. 03269 or to the American Cancer Society, Two Commerce Drive, Suite 110, Bedford, NH 03110.
