The Villages, Florida----Elaine J. Riel, 66, of 425 Brentwood Ave., and 45 Gilford Avenue, Laconia, N.H. , died at the C.R.V.N.A. Hospice House in Concord, N.H. on Tuesday, November 30, 2008.

Elaine was born November 23, 1942 in Berlin, N.H., the daughter of the Lionel F. and Pearl E. (Gallant) LaRoche. She grew up in Gorham, N. H.

Elaine was a proud hairdresser and successful businesswoman for 48 years. Her first business “Plain and Fancy” was located in Gorham, NH. Upon moving to Gilford, NH she owned and operated the “Wig Cellar” for a number of years until she opened “Hairworks” in Gilford for 25 years.

Elaine was an avid gardener, who took great pride in beautifying her yards. She loved to laugh and have fun with all of her “sisters.” Elaine was a proud mother of her two boys, Aaron and Ryan, and she greatly enjoyed the times she spent with her best friend, her dog, Jasper.

Elaine was a past president of the Nursery Guild, was on the Rowe House Committee, Gilford Old Home Day Committee, ELO Board of Directors and Gardener’s Exchange of Gilford.

Elaine lived in Gilford for over 40 years until she recently moved to Laconia. She spent winters in her beautiful home in The Villages, Florida. Elaine never asked for anything in return but constantly gave to those that she loved, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Elaine is survived by her two sons, Aaron Riel of Boulder, Colorado and Ryan Riel and his wife, Jen, of Louisville, Colorado; a grandchild, Jacob Riel, of Louisville, Colorado; a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Robert Travers, of Manchester, N.H.; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Louise and Peter Mason, of Melrose, Mass. and three nephews and two nieces.

There will be no calling hours.

A private service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rowe House Trust Fund, Town of Gilford c/o Finance Office, 47 Cherry Valley Road, Gilford, NH 03249 or to the C.R.V.N.A. Hospice House, 240 Pleasant Street, Concord, and N.H.03301.
