Gilford-----Lester J. Lewis, Jr., 75, of 365 Old Lakeshore Road died at his home on Wednesday, November 5, 2003.
Mr. Lewis was born on June 24, 1928 in Derry, NH, the son of Lester and Bertha (Teague) Lewis. He moved from Derry to Chester where he lived until he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950. After his discharge in 1954, he returned to Chester and was employed as a truck driver at his father's business, Lewis & Sons Lumber Co., and later was employed as a tractor trailer driver until he retired.
Mr. Lewis loved gardening, fishing, and camping. For several years, he was the Campground Host at Ellacoya State Park where he was well known around the nightly campfire and made many lasting friends.
Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Claire (Marquis) Lewis of Gilford; two sons, Jeffrey Lewis of Newbury and Scott Lewis of Sutton; two daughters, Mona Afshar of Londonderry and Brenda Foote of Framingham, MA; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Lewis, Jr. of Newbury, Jessica Lee Lewis of Concord, Sean Lewis of Wilmot, Jessica Jean Lewis of Wilmot, Kristin Lewis of Pensacola, Florida, David and Jonathan Afshar of Londonderry, Darrell Foote of Framingham, MA; a brother, Ralph Lewis of Candia; a sister, Dorothy Gorton of Lancaster and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Carl Lewis and by two sisters, Evelyn Roberts and Gladys Beauregard.
Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2003 from 1:00-3:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Rte 3, Boscawen on Monday, November 10, 2003 at 11:00 AM.
Burial will follow at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery.
