Arthur Brian Joseph Clairmont

Laconia——-Arthur Brian Joseph Clairmont, 85, of 296 Messer Street, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Friday, May 17, 2002.

Mr. Clairmont was born October 8, 1916 in Laconia, NH, the son of Arthur J. and Evelyn (Zimmerman) Clairmont.

Mr. Clairmont attended Sacred Heart School and Laconia High School. He worked as an insurance agent for the John Hancock Ins. Co. and the United Life Ins. Co. of Concord, NH. He founded the Clairmont Insurance and Real Estate Agency along with his father and brother, Robert. They were joined later by brother, Rene J. “Pat” Clairmont. The three brothers, through Arbor Homes of Connecticut, constructed over 70 homes in the area. Mr. Clairmont served as Park Commissioner for 15 years, during which time the beach at the Weirs was transferred from the State to the City of Laconia. He served as Police Commissioner during the Weirs Beach riot in 1965 and also served as Fire Commissioner. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing scrabble every day and writing at his computer, expressing his opinions of local, state, and world politics. His childhood remembrances were especially enjoyed by many.

Mr. Clairmont was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lakes Church, Lakeport.

Mr. Clairmont was predeceased by his first wife, Edith (Corriveau) Clairmont, son, Wesley, daughter, Judith, and brothers, Rene “Pat” Clairmont, Robert Clairmont, Armand Clairmont, Bernard Clairmont, and Raymond Clairmont.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (Smith) Clairmont, of Laconia; a son, Raymond Clairmont of Gilford, a daughter, Bernadette Zeigler, of Arizona; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Betty) Muller of Laconia, Mrs. Samuel (Pearl) Brooks of Winnisquam and St. Petersburg, FL and Mrs. Samuel (Anne) Spencer of Virginia; cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Lakes Church, 50 Washington Street, Lakeport on Thursday, May 23, 2002 at 11:00 AM. Rev. George Soberick, Pastor of the Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, PO Box 6123, Lakeport, NH 03247 or to the N. H. Humane Society, PO Box 572, Laconia, NH 03247.
