Allan C. Richardson

Gilford-----Allan C. Richardson, 89, of 31 Bedford Avenue died at the Belknap County Nursing Home, Laconia on Saturday, March 13, 2010.

Mr. Richardson was born April 5, 1920, in Laconia, N. H., the son of Merle D. and Alice L. (Ranger) Richardson.

Mr. Richardson was a longtime resident of Laconia/ Gilford and was a 1938 graduate of Laconia High School. While in high school, he was the state schoolboy pole vaulting champion, clearing 12 feet, one inch.

Mr. Richardson served in the U. S. Coast Guard during WWII. He was employed by Scott & Williams for over forty years, working in Laconia and North Carolina. From 1960-1973, he lived in High Point, North Carolina while working for Scott & Williams. He retired in 1986.

Mr. Richardson was a member of the United Baptist Church, Lakeport where he was a member of the Church choir. He was a member of the Lakes Region Chordsmen and the Laconia Amateur Radio Club. He enjoyed singing in the church choir, Barbershopping, fishing and motorcycling. He volunteered at the Belknap Mill working on the old knitting machine making socks and educating the children of today.

Mr. Richardson is survived by his wife, Georgia R. (Thomas) Richardson, of Gilford; three sons, Michael Richardson of Greensboro, North Carolina, Allan Richardson, Jr. of Montgomery, Alabama and Peter Richardson of Kernersville, North Carolina; a daughter, Gail Andy, of Concord, N.H.; six grandchildren, Bryan and Jason Richardson, Daniel and Sam Richardson and Cory and Brian Winkelman; seven great grandchildren; a brother, John Richardson, of Gilford; two sisters, Dorothy Malkoski of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Anne Parsons of Gilford; a sister-in-law, Irene Richardson; six nieces and ten nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Richardson was predeceased by a brother, Robert.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 11:00AM at the United Baptist Church, 23 Park St., Rev. Sharron Lamothe, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in the family lot in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia, N. H.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Baptist Church, 23-35 Park Street, Lakeport, NH 03246 or to the New Hampshire Humane Society, PO Box 572, Laconia, N.H. 03247.
