William "Bill" Andrews

Moultonborough- William "Bill" Andrews, 78, of Redding Lane, passed away peacefully at Golden View Health Care Center, Meredith on Monday, March 29, 2010 after a short illness.

Bill was born in Lancaster, NH on May 10, 1931 to Albert and Leota (Bresette) Andrews. He attended Lancaster schools where he was a champion skier. Following high school, he entered the Navy, serving in the SeaBee Construction Battalion. He trained in Port Huenemi, CA, where he attended builders school and graduated with honors. From 1951 to 1955, he was stationed in the Philippines and Korea. Returning to Lancaster, Bill married a former classmate, Vera Young. Moving to Littleton, NH, they raised a family. Bill worked for 22 years at Connors and Hoffman Footwear moving through the ranks to General Manager until he left in 1978.

Bill was a Past President of the Littleton Chamber of Commerce and was active in the Elks and Knights of Columbus. He coached several Little League teams and was a scout leader. He was instrumental in starting the parish council for the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church where he was a communicant. The family relocated to Holderness, NH where they purchased and operated the Black Horse Motor Court until 1985. An avid sports enthusiast, Bill was a lifelong NASCAR and Red Sox fan. He enjoyed gardening and listening to jazz and swing music. A champion swing dancer, Bill delighted his family at weddings and other gatherings with his talent for swing dance.

A highlight of his life was his grandchildren and attending the INDY 500 race with his sons. In addition to his wife of 53 years, Bill is survived by his five sons and their families; Michael and Julie of Gilford, Timothy and Michelle of Gilford, Gregory and Ann of Irvine, CA, Jeffrey and Lynn of Meredith, and Todd and Holly of Meredith, as well as 12 grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his brother, Robert Andrews, and his wife, Joyce, of Littleton, NH.

A calling hour will be held Monday, April 5, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. to noon at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in 300 NH. Route 25, Meredith, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow. The Very Reverend Dennis J. Audet, V.F. will be the celebrant.

Interment will follow immediately at Shannon Cemetery. Route 109, Moultonborough, NH.
