Julien "Chick" V. Joyal

Laconia-----Julien “Chic” V. Joyal, 87, of 91 Pine Street, died at his home on Monday, March 26, 2007. 

Julien was born December 14, 1919 in Laconia, the son of Albert and Atoinette (Spenard) Joyal.

Chic a highly respected auto mechanic was a life-long resident of Laconia, operated Chic’s Amoco gas station on Court Street in Laconia as well as other stations for Stafford Oil Company throughout his career.  In addition, with his wife, Regina, he sold antiques at flea markets all over New Hampshire.

He was most proud of having been a Seabee of the United States Navy during World War II.  He was a member of 130th construction Battalion who served in the Pacific Theatre including at the battle of Okinawa.   As a veteran, he devoted his life to fellow veterans. He was past commander and active chaplain of the Seabees Island X-4, a past commander of American Legion, Wilkins-Smith Post 1 of Laconia and a member of the VFW Post 1670, Laconia.

He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Regina (Mercier) Joyal in 2003 and a brother Pvt. Roger Joyal at Okinawa in 1945, as well as several brothers and sisters.

He will be greatly missed by his devoted daughter, Tiffany Luther, and husband, Allen, and grandchildren, Nicholas and Shelby Luther all of Laconia; daughters, Barbara Jean Miner and husband, Warren of Penacook and Patricia Joyal of Arkansas, sisters, Rhea Samson of Laconia, Jacqueline Thompson and husband, Basil, of Nova Scotia, Canada, and brother, Phillippe Lionel Joyal of Laconia as well as many nieces and nephews.

Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2007 from 6-8pm at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, using the Carriage House entrance. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 291Union Avenue, Laconia, on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 10:00am. The Rev. Adrien Longchamps, pastor of the church will officiate.

Burial will take place in the NH State Veteran’s Cemetery, Boscawen.                                                           

In Lieu of flowers, memorial donation’s may be made to the New Hampshire Veterans Home, Activities Fund, 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276.
