Elizabeth Baron Altman

Send a condolence note

Laconia----Elizabeth Baron Altman of Laconia, NH died on March 17th with her children at her side.

Betty was born on May 27th in Laconia to Laura and Lenny Mansfield.

Betty will be widely remembered for her wit, joy of life, love of travel, and children. Most of all she will be remembered for her style, grace and sense of humor.

After founding and growing Baron Machine with her husband Roger Baron she stepped in and ran the business after his sudden death in 1970. Proudly the business is still in the family today.

As a life long resident and lover of the Lakes Region Betty was passionate about giving back to her community as both a volunteer and contributor to many organizations in the region including Hospice, the YMCA, Altrusa, the Laconia Congregational Church, Laconia High School and a variety of programs involving young children.

In 1975 she married Fred Altman of Laconia a CPA/Attorney in Laconia, and together they loved to travel and enjoy the area.

Betty’s life long passion was her family. She leaves her eight children: Jari Ford, Kim Baron, Kevin Baron, Robin Baron, Jay Baron, Kent Baron, Bethanie McCann and Roger “Chip” Baron; 23 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson and many nephews, nieces and Fred’s 3 children Zalla Anne Galya, Kathy Lynn Collis and Fred Altman. Beside her parents and husbands she was predeceased by a brother and 3 sisters.

All who know Betty loved her for her infectious laugh and spontaneity.

There are no calling hours.
