Helen A. Short

Meredith, NH-----Mrs. Helen A. Short, 80, formerly of 24 Bois Circle, The Ledges, Taylor Community, Laconia, NH, died on Friday, March 28, 2003 at the Golden View Health Care Center, Meredith, NH after a long illness.

Mrs. Short was born December 24, 1922 in Milford, CT, the daughter of the late Alfred J. and Maude (Hardy) Ahrens. She lived in Milford, CT most of her life and graduated from Milford High School in 1940. On September 27, 1942 she married John (Jack) Short.

Mrs. Short was employed by the Milford Hospital from 1953 until her retirement in 1984. She was secretary to the hospital administrator and served as secretary to the Milford Hospital Board of Directors from 1960 to 1984. She was a member and past president of several organizations including the Milford Hospital Auxiliary and the Wepawaug Garden Club. She was a member of the Freelove Baldwin Stow Chapter of the D.A.R., a member and former Deaconess of the First United Church of Christ, Congregational in Milford and a Red Cross volunteer. In July, 1994, she and her husband moved to The Ledges, Taylor Community, Laconia, NH

Family members include four daughters, Susan Palmer of Orange, CT., Judith Pryor of Meredith NH, Nancy Ross of Milford, CT and Leslie Skibitsky of Dixfield, ME; ten grandchildren: two great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, John (Jack) Short who died November 20, 1997; by her sisters, Evelyn Woodruff, Dorothy Edo DiCamillo and Ruth Jankovski and by her brothers, Howard Ahrens and Alfred Ahrens, Jr.

A Private Burial will be held at the King's Highway Cemetery in Milford, CT.

A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Church of Christ, Congregational in Milford, CT on Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Milford (CT) Hospital Memorial Fund, 300 Seaside Avenue, Milford, CT 06460, or the Alzheimer's Association, 10 Ferry Street, Suite 427 B, Concord, NH 03301.
