Gilbert A. Phelps

Laconia------Gilbert A. Phelps, 92, of 435 Union Avenue and formerly of 48 Jefferson Street, Lakeport, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Thursday, March 13, 2003.

Mr. Phelps was born June 3, 1910 in Gilford, NH, the son of Clinton and Mabel (Smith) Phelps. He was a life time resident of the Lakes Region and was the former owner of Phelps Fuel Oil Company and the Gilbert A. Phelps & Sons Garage.

Mr. Phelps was a member of the United Baptist Church of Lakeport. He was a member of the Lakeport Chocorua Lodge I.O.O.F., and the Belknap County Sportsmen's Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his camp "Zebs" in Sandwich, NH.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Virginia W. Phelps of Laconia, NH; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clinton R. and Winnie Phelps of Lakeport, NH and Karl W. and Ann Phelps of Laconia, NH; 7 grandchildren, Michael Phelps of Belmont, Dennis Phelps of Laconia, Kimberly Lacasse of Gilford, Jennifer Mooney of Gilford, James Phelps of Laconia, Karmen Gifford of Lakeport, and Holly Summers of Concord; 15 great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Wesley C. Phelps, and two sisters, Marion Elliott and Edna Shortle.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held in the Spring in the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Belknap County Sportsmen's Association, Inc., PO Box 214, Laconia, NH 03247-0214.

Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH is in charge of the arrangements.
