Harold R. Craigie

Laconia------Harold R. Craigie, 81, of 44 Dartmouth Street, died at his home on Monday, March 31, 2003.

Mr. Craigie was born August 17, 1921 in Winchester, MA, the son of William E. and Beulah Mabel (Atkins) Craigie. He grew up in North Reading, Billerica and Melrose, MA and graduated from Melrose High School in 1939. After graduation, he worked in the Amazeen Foundry in Wakefield, MA. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. After the War, he lived in Stoneham, MA where he worked as an apprentice at the Lantz and Tilton Cabinet Shop. In 1953, the family moved to Lochmere, NH and later moved to Laconia, NH. He worked for the Laconia State School & Training Center for thirty-two years. He was a manual training teacher in the industrial arts before he became the supervisor of vocational training for the school. He retired in 1984.

Mr. Craigie was the Ward 3 Selectman for the City of Laconia for approximately 15 years. He was a member of the Street Car Company for thirty years and was a 4-H Leader at the Laconia State School and Training Center.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Edith F. (Langley) Craigie, of Laconia, NH; three sons, Raymond S. Craigie of Belmont, NH, Jeffrey L. Craigie of Laconia, NH and Ross A. Craigie of Alton, NH; one grandson, Connor Craigie of Alton, NH; a sister, Eleanor Paolin of Florida and several nephews and nieces.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 2:00 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH. Rev. Harry Woodley of Laconia will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Laconia Salvation Army, 177 Union Avenue, Laconia, NH 03246 or to Community Health & Hospice, Inc., 7780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.

Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH is in charge of the arrangements.
