Center Harbor----Wayne D. Smart, 86, of 276 Waukewan Road and formerly of Sanbornton, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Tuesday, June 24, 2008.  Mr. Smart was the widower of Barbara (Goudie) Smart who died May 11, 2003.

         Mr. Smart was born April 9, 1922 in Laconia, the son of Dr. Chester L. and Eula (Douglas) Smart. Mr. Smart had been a resident of Sanbornton since 1954 and graduated from Kimball Union Academy.  He attended U.V.M. and graduated from Bryant & Stantton in Boston.  He served in the U. S. Army during WWII.  Mr. Smart was employed at I.P.C. in Bristol and was also a real estate agent.

         Mr. Smart was a member and former Deacon of the Laconia Congregational Church.  He was a member of Mt. Lebanon Lodge #32 F. & A.M. and was a Thirty-Second Degree Mason and was a member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks #876.  He was a former Selectman for the Town of Sanbornton and had also served as the Code Enforcement Officer.

Mr. Smart enjoyed his camp in Pittsburgh, NH and the out of doors.  He loved to fish and hunt and enjoyed teaching horseback riding and fly fishing at the family farm in Sanbornton.  He also loved to travel.

         Survivors include a daughter, Carol Ann Baggaley, and her husband, Daniel, of Center Harbor; three sons, Chester G. Smart and his wife, Helen, of Brunswick, Vermont, Stephan D. Smart and his wife, Lisa, of Meredith and Ross T. Smart of  Brattleboro, Vermont;  eight grandchildren, Nathan Smart, Hannah Smart, Adrienne Smart, Leah Smart, Ian Smart, Sarah Clark, Samuel Baggaley and Jacob Baggaley; a sister, Rita (Smart) Mayo, of Laconia and several nephews and nieces.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Smart was predeceased by a brother, Leonard Smart, in 2003.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 27, 2008 at 11:00AM at the Laconia Congregational Church, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia, N.H.  Rev. Dr. Warren Bouton, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Laconia Congregational Church, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia, N.H. 03246
