Sanbornton----Fredrick “Fred” L. Legassie, 84, of 239 Bay Road, and formerly of 27 Bay Street, Laconia, died at his home on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 surrounded by his loving wife, Irene, and family.

Fred was born August 1, 1923 in Berlin, New Hampshire the son of Emery and Alice (White) Legassie. He was a graduate of Berlin High School class of 1942. Before recently moving to Sanbornton, Mr. Legassie was a long time resident of Laconia.

Fred was owner and operator of the Mobil Filling Station on Union Avenue in the 1960’s.  After he sold the filling station, he worked at the Pittsfield Shoe Co., the Tilton Belt Co., and then at the Laconia Shoe Company for sixteen years until the Company closed.  He later worked at the Risdon-AMS Corporation retiring in 2004.

Fred loved to work in his vegetable and flower gardens.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He was always eager to open his heart and home to all who knew him. Sundays were his favorite day to have family and friends stop in to spend time with him and his wife, Irene.

Fred is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Irene (Cloutier) Legassie, of Sanbornton; four sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Brenda Legassie, of Belmont, Norman and Zilla Legassie, Robert and Kathy Legassie and Raymond and Mary Legassie all of Laconia; two daughters and sons-in law, Cindy and Tom Balint of Sanbornton and Marcia and Jerry Moore of Laconia; eleven grandchildren; Richard Legassie, Brian Legassie, Christopher Legassie, Shannon Ross, Kristy Legassie, Jamey Balint, Zandy Legassie-Dezonie, Jason Balint, Dawn March, Shane Legassie and Paige Legassie; seven great grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by thirteen brothers and by two sisters.

The Legassie family would like to thank Heidi Loring of Community Health & Hospice for her care and support during Fred’s illness.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 9, 2008 from 5:00-8:00PM at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH using the carriage entrance.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 11:00AM also at the Funeral Home.  The Rev. Robert Robertson, Pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Sanbornton, will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia, NH.
