Gilford, NH----Helen M. Grafe, 72, of 4 Varney Point Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Wednesday, June 11, 2008.

Mrs. Grafe was born August 15, 1935 in Medford, Mass., the daughter of Walter and Marie (Hermanson) Hawes.  She lived in Woburn, Mass. and graduated from Medford High School in 1953.  She later moved to Indianapolis where she lived for twenty-eight years before moving to Gilford in 1989.  Mrs. Grafe was an elementary school teacher for fifteen years in the Indianapolis Public Schools.

Mrs. Grafe enjoyed reading, playing cards, knitting, traveling and especially loved time with family.

Survivors include her husband, Roger A. Grafe, of Gilford; one son, Roger A. Grafe, of Indianapolis, Indiana; four daughters, Cheryl A. Ware of  Indianapolis, Indiana, Melanie L. Ransom of Evansville, Indiana, Rhonda J. Cost of Center Harbor, N.H. and Diana J. Vraney of Jackson, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother, Richard Hawes, of Ashland, Kentucky and a sister, Betty Riley, of Davenport, Florida.

There will be no calling hours.

A private family funeral service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2 Wall St., Manchester, N.H. 03101, the American Diabetes Association, Manchester, N.H.
