Cecile Rose (Morin) Clifford
Send a condolence note

Laconia-----Cecile Rose (Morin) Clifford, 87, of Laconia passed peacefully on June 27, 2008 after a brief illness.

Cecile was born in Laconia, August 29, 1920, the daughter of the late Aime and Generia (Fillion) Morin.  She was the loving wife of the late Everett Clifford who died July 1, 1982.

Cecile attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Laconia High School in 1939.  She and her twin sister, the late Lucille (Morin) Bissonnette, graduated from the New Hampshire School of Cosmotology in Manchester, N.H.  At the age of 21, the two sisters opened and together operated Fashion Beauty Shop on Main Street in Laconia until Cecile married in 1945.  Cecile and her husband purchased the Holiday Bungalows on the Weirs Boulevard in 1950 and successfully ran the cabin colony until 1972.

Cecile had always enjoyed sports, having played field hockey, basketball, softball and tennis in high school.  She was the first girl to receive a letter in tennis at Laconia High School in 1939.  She continued her love of sports by coaching the CYO girls’ basketball teams at both Our Lady of the Lakes and Sacred Heart School.  Cecile and her sister enjoyed playing golf and tennis and played regularly until a few years ago.  She instilled in her sons and grandson the love of sports, especially golf.

Family was very important to Cecile – she loved and enjoyed spending time with all of her family members.  In recent years, she shared an especially close relationship with her late twin sister’s daughters, Cecile “Tootsie” (Bissonnette) Genova and Donna Bissonnette Paxton.

Besides her husband and twin sister, Cecile was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond Morin who died in World Ward II and Dr. Robert Morin of Franklin, N.H.  She is survived by her brother, Gerard Morin, of Vero Beach, Florida; her sons, Earle Clifford and his wife, Marsha, of Pittsburg, NH and Wayne Clifford and his wife, Diana, of Hampton, NH; a grandson, Sean Clifford, and his wife, Heather, of Austin, Texas; step grandchildren, Letishia Whitney of Neptune, New Jersey and Craig Whitney of Charlotte, North Carolina; a step grandson, Craig Alan Whitney of Somersworth, NH and many nieces and nephews.

Cecile loved Laconia and has often shared her memories of its rich history with her family.  She also had an inquisitive spirit which was evident in her love of traveling and experiencing the new adventures that it offered.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. George J. Soberick on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 10:00AM at Our Lady of the Lakes Church, 50 Washington Street Lakeport.
