Chester Earl Smith

Gilford-----Chester Earl Smith, Jr., 77, of 261 Cotton Hill Road, died at his home on Wednesday, June 27, 2007.

Mr. Smith was born September 15, 1929 in Framingham, Massachusetts, the son of Chester E. and Elizabeth E. (Payne) Smith.  He was a graduate of Northeastern University and served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War.  He also served in the Navy Reserve prior to his enlistment in the Air Force.

Mr. Smith lived in Holliston, Mass. for several years before moving to Gilford twenty-seven years ago. 

 Mr. Smith was an industrial engineer and was employed at Rockwell International.  He was also employed at N. H. Ballbearing and Draper Corp.

Mr. Smith was an adjunct instructor in Transformations program at the N. H. Technical College, North Campus.

Mr. Smith was an active member of the South Baptist Church in Laconia.  He loved to fix things, build model airplanes, woodworking, gardening, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Laura (Putney) Smith, of fifty-seven years, of Gilford, N.H.; four sons, Scott Smith and his wife, Susan, of Laconia, N. H., Shaun Smith of Hopkinton, Mass., William Smith and his wife, Cheryle, of Cape Neddick, Maine and Chester E. Smith III of Franklin, N. H.; a daughter, Sandra Davis, of Nashua, N.H.; four grandchildren, Phillip and Heather Davis of Burlington, Mass. and Josiah and Jeremiah Smith both of  Laconia, N. H.; a sister, Patricia Irvine, of Hopkinton, Mass. and several nephews and nieces.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia Buchel and Mary E. Smith.

There will be no calling hours.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 2:00PM at the South Baptist Church, 85 Court Street, Laconia, NH.  Pastor Barry Armitage, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.

Private burial will be in the Moore Family Cemetery, Cape Neddick, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the South Baptist Church, 85 Court Street, Laconia, N.H., 03246 or to the Faith Christian Academy, 87 Horne Road, Belmont, N. H. 03220.
