Ruth E. Hernandez

Laconia-----Mrs. Ruth E. Hernandez, 96, formerly of 12 Mitchell Place, died at the Congregate Living Center, Taylor Community, on Monday, June 23, 2003. She was the widow of Dr. Rembert A. Hernandez who died in 1976.

Mrs. Hernandez was born June 1, 1907 in Gilford, NH, the daughter of Oscar M. and Myrtie (Moody) Emerson. She was a life long resident of the Lakes Region.

Mrs. Hernandez was the owner of the Haley Nursing Home in Laconia for many years. She was a charter member of the Altrusa Club, a member of the Opechee Garden Club, a Director of the Taylor Home for 27 years, a member of the Mary Butler Chapter of the D.A.R. and a member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary.
Mrs. Hernandez was an active and dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church for over 80 years. She was a former member of the Church's Board of Trustees and a former President of the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include a son, John T. Haley and his wife, Marion, of Denver, Colorado; a daughter, Nancy Svindland, of Ft. Myers, Florida; a step son, Harley Hernandez and his wife, Margaret, of Little River, S.C; seven grandchildren, Kathleen Haley of Arvada, CO, Tamra Schuch and her husband, Joe, of Chapel Hill, N.C., Rhonda Carr and her husband, Stuart, of Parker, CO, Erika Haley of Denver, CO, Karol Derflinger and her husband, Mark, of Front Royal, Virginia, Kristian Svindland of Hoboken, N.J. and Kathrine Broderick and her husband, Wesley, of Milford, CT; one step-granddaughter, Roberta Sharp of San Antonio, Texas; great grandchildren, Nicholas Schuch, Katherine Schuch, Samuel Haley, Isaiah Haley, Madelynn Derflinger, Lindsay Broderick and Evan Broderick; three step-great granddaughters, Kelly Sharp and Caitlin Sharp both of San Antonio, Texas and Shannon Boyd, U. S. Air Force and one niece, Vera Craig, and a nephew, Ralph Tucker, and his wife, Virginia. She was predeceased by her sisters, Gladys Hull, Sadie Tucker and Florence Boucher and by a step-granddaughter, Debbie Boyd of Boulder, CO.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on August 9, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford, NH

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Methodist Church, 500 Gilford Avenue, Gilford, NH 03249 or to the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 7312, Gilford, NH 03247-7312 in memory of John Svindland or Michael Tucker.
