Norma L. Whitten

Laconia----Norma L. Whitten, 59, of 8A Summer Street, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Thursday, July 24, 2008.

Mrs. Whitten was born September 22, 1948 in Franklin, N.H., the daughter  of  Norman I. and Flora O. (Fogarty)  Cheney.  She lived most of  her life in Laconia and was formerly employed at the Laconia Salvation Army.

Mrs. Whitten was a very active member of the Laconia Salvation Army.  She was a member of the Road Runners and enjoyed collecting lighthouses.

Survivors include her husband of thirty-six years, Donald Whitten, of  Laconia; two sons, Christopher Whitten and Chad Whitten, both of  Laconia; two daughters, Angela Stimpson of  Franklin and Melanie Whitten of  Laconia; seven grandchildren,  Kaytlyn Whitten, Tyler Whitten, Brandon Whitten, Devin Whitten, Brian Stimpson,  Jr. Candice Stimpson and Brett Bourassa; many adopted grandchildren; a brother, Michael Cheney, of Beckett, Mass; two sisters, Bonnie Jane Tate of  Kent, Ohio and Wendy Lou Cheney of Northfield; and many nephews and nieces.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitten was predeceased by a brother, Carlton “Skip” N. Cheney, in 1993, by a sister, Susan G. Cheney, in 1979 and by a grandson, Andrew Whitten, in 2002.

There will be no calling hours.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 4:00PM at the Laconia Salvation Army, 177 Union Avenue, Laconia, N.H.

Burial will be at a later date in the family lot in Maplewood Cemetery, Rte 4, Salisbury, N.H.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Laconia Salvation Army, 177 Union Avenue, Laconia, N.H. 03246.
