Everett Paine Walkley

Laconia---Everett Paine Walkley, 90, of Laconia NH, and formerly of Darien, Conn. and Wilmington, NC died July 13th with Rebecca, his wife, by his side.

Ev was born at home October 5, 1917 in Marblehead MA. Growing up in Marblehead he developed an avid love for the sailing and the sea. He would spend the majority of his life always living near the water. Ev graduated from Philips Exeter Academy class of 1936 and Harvard class of 1940.  He joined the army after college serving as a captain in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star.  He married Rebecca Davis of Dunn, NC after meeting on a blind date in 1943.  Ev’s professional career would take him many places.   First Chicago working for John Hancock and then as manager of Mobil Oil’s International Compensation and Benefits.  Ev and his family would travel overseas extensively including time spent living in Nairobi, Kenya and Singapore.  He ended his professional career as a vice president at Manufacturers Hanover. This, however, did not stop his love of travel and he and his wife continued to travel the globe. At the age of 80, Ev and Becky decided to travel to Antarctica as it was the only continent they hadn’t visited.

 Ev also was active at the Norton Yacht Club, and the Senior Men’s Association of Darien.  He and his wife left the cold winters of Connecticut returning to Wilmington NC where they first met and spent 11 years there before relocating to Laconia, NH.

 Ev is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rebecca Davis, and his three children: Edward Walkley of Tacoma WA; Peter Walkley and his wife,

Carol, of Laconia, NH; and Anne McMahon and her husband, Joseph, of  Marshfield MA.  He is also survived by five grandchildren: Rebecca, Christopher, Mackenzie, Ian and Ethan.

 A memorial service will be held at the Old North Church, Marblehead, MA on July  26 at 11:30AM.

 Interment will be private at Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead.
