Atty. Robert P. Tilton

Laconia, NH---------Atty. Robert P. Tilton, 86, of 612 Weirs Blvd., died at his home on July 7, 2003 in the presence of his family. He was the widower of Bertha (Lake) Tilton who died in 1993.

Mr. Tilton was born May 22, 1917 in Laconia, NH, the son of Frank Pierce Tilton and Leonora (Gould) Tilton and was a life time resident of Laconia. He graduated from Laconia High School in 1935 and from the University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH in 1939. He graduated from Boston University Law School, Boston, MA. and served in the Army Air Force during WWII where he was a gunner and radio operator.

For thirty years, Mr. Tilton and his wife, Bertha owned Prescott's Bay View, and he and his brother, Dick, were owners of the Laconia Bowling Alleys.

Mr. Tilton was an attorney for the Tilton & Tilton Law Firm and for thirty years was Clerk for Belknap County Superior Court, retiring in 1987. He served on the Laconia City Council -Ward 6 - for several years and was elected to the N. H. Legislature in 1951. From 1947-1956 he was the City Solicitor and Probation Officer for Laconia Municipal Court.

Survivors include several nephews and nieces, including Richard P. Tilton and his wife, Joanne, of Laconia, Deborah Tilton Cotting and her husband, Charles Cotting, of Lynnfield, MA; and many great nephews and great nieces, including, Jason Cotting and Richard P. Tilton, Jr. and his wife, Nicole, and their children, Lexi & Jonathan, and by his Golden Retriever, Maverick. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two brothers, Atty. Frederick A. Tilton, and Judge Richard G. Tilton, and by two sisters, Frances B. Tilton and Sarah W. Clark.

There will be no calling hours

According to his wishes, Friends and Family are invited to a Celebration of his life at the Belknap Mill, Mill Plaza, Laconia on Thursday, July 10, 2003 from 4:00-6:00 PM. Private burial will be held at the family lot in Union Cemetery, Laconia, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Humane Society, PO Box 572, Laconia, NH 03247
