Meredith, NH-----Stephanie D. Rainey, 94, of 19 NH Rte 104, Meredith and formerly of 144 Daviston Street, Springfield, MA, died peacefully in her sleep at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, NH on Tuesday, January 2, 2007. Mrs. Rainey was the widow of Arthur H. Rainey who died in 1962.

      Mrs. Rainey was born December 11, 1912 in Hadley, MA, the daughter of John and Catherine (Kuchyt) Slaby. She celebrated her 94th birthday recently with friends and family at her bedside at the Golden View Healthcare Center in Meredith, NH. She lived in Springfield, Mass. for sixty years before moving to Gilford, NH and Oro Valley, Arizona. She attended the Perkins School of the Blind and was employed as a nurse’s aide for twenty years.

      Mrs. Rainey was a charter member of the Widow and Widower’s Club in Chicopee, MA.

      Mrs. Rainey was a thoughtful and loving person and had many friends. She had a lovely singing voice and loved to sing and dance. She met her husband at a ballroom dance in 1932. She also enjoyed animals and traveling, especially cruises.

      Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Clifford Leslie of Gilford and Oro Valley, Arizona; one grandchild, Stephanie Leslie Pigman, of Severna Park, Maryland and her husband, Commander Steven Pigman, USN; two great grandchildren, Erin Pigman and Jack Pigman, both of Severna Park, Maryland; two nieces and four nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, William, Peter and Edward Slaby and by a sister, Mary Slaby DeGowin.

      There will be no calling hours.

      A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 11:00AM at the family lot in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, East Springfield, MA.

      In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2 Wall Street, Manchester, NH 03101or to the New Hampshire Humane Society, PO Box 572, Laconia, NH 03247.
