Lincoln "Linc" W. Noel

Tilton-----Lincoln “Linc” W. Noel, 93, formerly of 138 Main Street, Belmont died at the Franklin Regional Hospital, Franklin on Thursday, January 25, 2007.  Mr. Noel was the widower of Jeannette (Langevin) Noel who died in 2001.

Mr. Noel was born June 3, 1913 in Belmont, NH, the son of Henry and Marion

( Crockett) Noel.  He grew up on Gale Street and attended the Gale School during the 1920’s and had been an active alumnus.

Mr. Noel served at the Citizens Military Training Camp from 1935 to 1937, reaching the rank of corporal.  He joined the U.S. Army in 1940, and served as a mess sergeant in New Guinea, Biak Island, The Philippines and Okinawa during WWII.  He returned to his hometown in 1945 after completing his military tour of duty.  He was the recipient of five battle stars.  He was also a member of the New Hampshire National Guard.

Mr. Noel had been a life long resident of Belmont before moving to the New Hampshire Veterans Home, Tilton in February, 2006.  For many years, he was employed at the I. G. A. Store in Laconia.

Mr. Noel was one of the most active volunteers in the community.  He was a member of the Lions Club for more than fifty years and was a Past District Governor District 44. He was also a member of the American Legion, Belmont, Post #658 for over fifty years, Chairman of the Belmont Old Home Day Committee, a Library Trustee and a member of various other town boards. “Linc” typifies the spirit of voluntarism and citizenship.

 Mr. Noel is the current holder of the Boston Cane for the Town of Belmont which he received in 2005.

Survivors include two daughters, Gayla Gilbert and Glory Flack, both of Belmont, NH; nine grandchildren, Matthew Mooney, Bryan Mooney, Marsha Cacciatore, Christopher Mooney, Richard Gilbert, Robin Gilbert, Michael Flack, Marc Flack and Michelle Bernard; fifteen great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.  In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Doris Anne Mooney in 1999, by two brothers, Russell and Homer and by two sisters, Albia and Priscilla.

 A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at 4:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH followed by Calling Hours until 7:00PM.

Spring burial will be held in the family lot in South Road Cemetery, Belmont, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the NH Veterans Home Benefit Fund, 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276 or to the Laconia-Gilford Lions Club, Scholarship Fund, PO Box 94, Laconia, NH 03247.
