Doris Carla (Ormes) Bennett Send a condolence note

Gilford---- Doris Carla (Ormes) Bennett, 97, of 158 Mt. Drive, died at her home on Sunday, February 10, 2008. Doris was born July 28, 1910 in Norfolk, Mass., the daughter of Carlton Draper and Gertrude Ellen (Parker) Ormes.

Doris grew up on the family farm in Norfolk Mass. She lived in Wrentham, Mass. for many years running her own farm which produced flowers to be sold at the Boston Market. Many of the trees now standing in Wrentham Center were planted from this family business, many years ago. She raised four children and later became an LPN. She worked for The Wrentham State School for over 30 years while running the nursery.

She helped raise many of her grandchildren. Sewing and knitting were a big part of her hobbies, making clothes and blankets for every new addition to the family. She designed beautiful warm quilts, baby clothes, and mended everyone’s clothes.

Doris taught Sunday School at the Wrentham Original Congregational Church when she was younger, She was a member of that church for many years. Her Mother was raised in Keene NH, and her father was raised in Vermont. Some of her family still resides in NH and so she eventually retired to Gilford, NH. She enjoyed going to the Gilford Community Church and loved listening to Rev. Michael Graham. She enjoyed the farms still running here in town and made many trips to the Weeks farm to see the spring calves. She raised many chickens herself over the years. She enjoyed Gilford Old Home Day, as well as the Belknap, Deerfield, & Sandwich Fairs.

Doris was a giver, always caring and helping family and friends. Anyone who needed a hand, she always tried to be there for them. Doris was an interesting story teller with a wealth of knowledge which came from 97 years of seeing the world change. She loved keeping track of family history, and for as many years as she could, she attended the Parker Family Reunion held annually in NH. Doris was especially proud of her family, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. The newest great grandsons, Wyatt & Lucas Boucher, brought her much joy when they made the long trip so she could hold them. Her newest unborn great, great granddaughter, Madison Marie, brought excitement & joy through ultrasounds. Doris will be remembered for her endless sense of humor, pranks & phrases.  She will be deeply missed by all she touched, family & friends.  Each of us grateful for all she gave, taught, and loved.

Once written for her Mom, and now for her…… "God saw the road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb. He gently closed her weary eyes and whispered peace be thine."

Doris is survived by her four children, Marion Clover, Marjorie Greenleaf, John Bennett and Dianne Boucher; fourteen grandchildren, Nancy Greenleaf, Robert Greenleaf, Thomas Greenleaf, Theodore Greenleaf,  George Clover Jr., Kathleen Clover, Janet Hanson, David Clover, Lisa Patterson,Tracey Nett, John Bennett Jr., Doris Chitty, Dan Boucher and Peter Boucher; twenty-four great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her sisters, Hazel Hallett, Marion Rundlett, Helen Larson, Edith Baker, Edna Prouty, Ruth Bent and Madeline Ormes; by her brother, Robert Ormes, and by a granddaughter, Ellen Clover.
