William "Bill" Henry Veazey

Gilford-----William “Bill” Henry Veazey, 80, of 18 Lockes Hill Road, died at the St. Francis Healthcare Center, Laconia on Friday, February 2, 2007.

         Mr. Veazey was born May 28, 1926 in Laconia, NH, the son of the late Allen G. and Nina (Suttie) Veazey. 

         Mr. Veazey served in the Merchant Marine.  He was a life long resident of the Lakes Region and was a former co-owner of the Boulia-Gorrell Lumber Co. for over fifty years, retiring in 1999.

         In 1953, Mr. Veazey became a member of the Winnipesaukee Yacht Club and was a past Commodore and life member.  He was also a member of the Granite State Hoo Hoo Club and a life member of Hoo Hoo International, a past secretary and treasurer of the New Hampshire Lumberman’s Association, past president of the New Hampshire Humane Society, a member of the N. H. Antique & Classic Boat Museum and a former assistant cub scoutmaster for two years. For many years, Mr. Veazey was a frequent blood donor to the American Red Cross.

      Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Joan ( Boyd) Veazey; a son, Charles “Chip” B. Veazey and his wife, Joanna L., all of Gilford; a daughter, Susanne Veazey, of Laconia; six grandchildren, Liza Eastman, Hannah Colby, Nicholas HoffmanVeazey, Christopher Hoffman Veazey, Connor William Veazey and Sarah Boyd Veazey; a brother, John A. Veazey, of Laconia; one nephew; two nieces and a long time family friend, Amanda Ewing, of Laconia.

         There will be no calling hours.

         A Memorial Service will be held at the Gilford Community Church, Potter Hill Road, on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 11:00AM.  Rev. Michael Graham, Pastor of the Church, will officiate.

A private spring burial will be in the Raymond C. Wixson Memorial Garden, Gilford, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the William “Bill” H. Veazey Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 7312, Gilford, NH 03247-7312.
