Hazel Jane (MacKay) Sanborn

Laconia------Hazel Jane (MacKay) Sanborn 93 of 175 Blueberry Lane died at the Genesis Elder Care in Laconia on Saturday February 10, 2007. She was the widow of Frank H. Sanborn who died in 1998.

      Mrs. Sanborn was born April 18, 1913 in Laconia the daughter of James R. and Mary Dell (Myers) MacKay. In her early years she worked at the Laconia Country Club as a waitress and later worked at Levens Shoe Store and Landeaus. Then in the early 1950’s she worked at Scott & Williams until 1957.

     Mrs. Sanborn and her husband Frank operated the Sanborn’s Orchard on Province Road where they raised and sold fresh vegetables, corn, apples and fresh made cider. She made many jars of pickles, relishes, jams and jellies to sell. Her greatest pride, were all the rows of beautiful flowers she grew including gladiolus, asters and zinnias to name a few. During the winter she ran her ceramic studio. She loved to knit, crochet and do any crafts.

     Mrs. Sanborn was an active member of the Married Farmers helping with the suppers and running the fun dances. She loved to cook.

     Mrs. Sanborn lived in Zephyrhills, Florida for 20 years.

    Survivors include a son Raymond and his wife Anne Sanborn of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter Nancy and her husband Robert Potter, Sr. of Lower Gilmanton; a daughter-in-law Carolyn (Clark) Sanborn of Laconia; 8 grandchildren James Sanborn of New Mexico, Sharon Witham of Somersworth, Eric Sanborn of Canterbury, John Sanborn of California, Joan Riel, Janet Breton, Robert Potter, Jr. and Richard Potter all of Lower Gilmanton; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and Anne’s children and grandchildren in Florida.

      There are no calling hours.

       A graveside service will be held at a later date in the family lot in Bayside Cemetery.

     In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association NH & VT Chapter, 10 Ferry Street Suite 427B, Concord, NH 03301.

     The Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home & Cremation Services 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH 03246 is in charge of the arrangements.
