Hermann A. Poh

Meredith-Hermann Andrew Poh, 96, formerly of 15 Nutmeg Circle, The Ledges at the Taylor Community, died peacefully Wednesday morning, December 30, 2009 at Goldenview Health Care Center.

Hermann was born in Queens, New York on January 29, 1913 where he was raised and schooled. He was the son of the late Andrew and Matilda (Kramer) Poh. He had been a resident of Laconia since 1993. Prior he had lived in Midddletown, New York for many years, and after his retirement he had lived in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.

Prior to his retirement in 1972, Hermann was a Lieutenant with the New York City Fire Department for 35 years. A WWII Navy Veteran, he served his country honorably attaining rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He was a member of the IAFF Local #854 in New York City, a member of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association also in New York City. He also held membership in the Lodge of Elks primarily in Florida.

Hermann was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Virginia C. (Gorodovich) Poh on January 4, 2008.

Hermann is survived by two sons, Timothy Poh and his wife Diane of Meredith, and Andrew Poh and his wife Holly of Woodstock, Connecticut; a daughter, Andrea Poh of Phoenix, Arizona; six grandchildren, Nicholas and Georgianna Poh of Connecticut, Alexandra and Brendan Poh of San Diego, California, Tristan Poh of Jacksonville, Florida, and Charissa McCarron of Phoenix, Arizona; two great grandchildren, Danica McCarron of Phoenix, Arizona, and Elijah Poh of Connecticut. Many nieces and nephews also survive Hermann.

Private services for the family will be held at a later date in the spring at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Rte 3, Boscawen, NH. There are no visiting hours.
