Dorothy Johnsen Lovett

Laconia, NH - Dorothy Johnsen Lovett, 85, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Belknap County Nursing Home in Laconia.
She was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on December 20, 1924, the youngest daughter of Anton (from Halden, Norway) and Johannah (Christensen) Johnsen (from Maribo, Denmark).
Dorothy graduated from Lynn English High School and attended Union College in Kentucky and Tufts Summer Theater. She married Rev. Miller C. Lovett in 1946. Dorothy was active in Methodist church youth groups and many other parts of the church throughout her youth and marriage.
Dotty painted in watercolors and oils, kept a garden of flowers and vegetables, and was active in Laconia’s Streetcar Company. She loved music, knitting and baking for her family, and had an especial love of the ocean and the beaches of Rockport, Massachusetts. She took enormous pleasure in her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, from childhood and on as they grew. She leaves a legacy of memories and photographs of apple picking, holidays and the joys of everyday life. She was proud of her Scandinavian heritage and when in her seventies, made a visit to her father’s home in Norway and her mother’s home in Denmark.
Later in life, after her diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, Dotty remarkably continued to share her happiness through her plentiful smiles and sunny personality.
Dorothy was predeceased by her sisters, Louise and Priscilla.
Surviving are her former husband and friend, Miller Lovett; four children, daughters Anne Lovett of Tacoma, Washington, Celeste Lovett of Moultonborough, NH, Rebecca Lovett and her husband John Dunn of Bowdoinham, Maine, and son Peter Lovett and his wife Maritza of Virginia; grandchildren Christine (Lovett) Roz, Erin and Rory Lovett Sherman, Jessica and Ian Dunn, Nichole, Johannah, Carrilyn and Josiah Lovett, Erich and Maria Katterine Kottke; great-grandchildren Jacob Roz, Myles Belove, Jazmine, Jordan, and Julian Neal; much-loved nieces and nephews.
