Laurence A. Blood

Laconia-----Laurence A. Blood, 86, of 228 Woodside - Taylor Community and formerly of New Hampton, died at his home on Saturday, December 12, 2009.
"Larry", as he was known by friends, was born February 6, 1923 in Lynn, Mass., the son of Robert E. and Isabelle B. (Turnbull) Blood. He graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. in 1941, from Dartmouth College in 1948 and from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration in 1949. He served in WW II as a Medic in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 82nd Medical Battalion, 12th Armored Division ETO.
Larry was employed at J. B. Blood Co. from 1949-1953; Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors Corp. from 1953-1969; New Hampton School from 1969-1977; and the State of New Hampshire Department of Revenue Administration from 1977-1988.
Larry's years of faithful service to numerous organizations enriched the lives of individuals and communities. He was a member and former trustee and treasurer of the Laconia Congregational Church and also a member and former treasurer, deacon and choir member of the New Hampton Community Church. He was a trustee and treasurer of the Gordon-Nash Library; a selectman, member of the planning board, moderator pro-tem and auditor for the Town of New Hampton; a trustee, president and treasurer of the Newfound Area Nursing Association; treasurer of the New Hampton Cemetery Association; and a member of the Pemi Choral Society and the New Hampshire Music Festival.
Larry also enriched the lives of numerous children as a Scout Master and Little League Coach for many years and as a reader at area elementary schools, where he shared with the students the wonders of books and the dangers of smoking.
Larry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia (Worcester) Blood, of Laconia; four sons, Timothy L. Blood of Eugene, Oregon, Geoffrey B. Blood of Mountain View, California, Laurence A. Blood, Jr. of Mount Airy, North Carolina and Kenneth W. Blood of Eugene, Oregon; a daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Bascom, of New Hampton, N.H.; thirteen grandchildren, James R. Bascom, II, John P. Bascom, Rebecca A. Bascom, Peter S. Bascom, Amy E. (Bascom) Brereton, Kristin (Bascom) Baker, Christopher B. Blood, Katherine H. Blood, Matthew L. Blood, Andrew S. Blood, Michelle L. Blood, Stella C. Strother-Blood and Jack C. Strother-Blood; nine great grandchildren; two nephews and three nieces. In addition to his parents, Mr. Blood was predeceased by a brother, Robert E. Blood, Jr., in 1998 and by a sister, Elizabeth B. Grimes, in 1999.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at 3:00PM at the New Hampton Community Church, New Hampton. Rev. Scott Mitchell, pastor of the church, and Rev. John Bascom, Larry's grandson, will officiate.
Spring burial will be in the family lot in New Hampton Village Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gordon-Nash Library, 69 Main Street, New Hampton, N.H. 03256.
