Helen C. Sotiriou

Laconia——-Mrs. Helen C. Sotiriou, 78, died Saturday, April 20, 2002 at her daughter’s home in Laconia, following a long illness. She was the widow of Socrates C. Sotiriou who passed away in 1991.

Mrs. Sotiriou was born in Lowell, Mass, the daughter of James and Stella Contraros. She was a graduate of Manchester Central High School.

Mrs. Sotiriou resided in Laconia since 1955. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Laconia, the Laconia Women’s Club, the Laconia Art Association, and a former member of the Philoptochos Society.

Her artwork was enjoyed by her family and friends. The many posters for her church and club activities were a labor of love.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Stewart and husband Paul of Laconia and Susan Harris and husband Peter of Belmont; son, Charles Sotiriou and wife Kaye of Peoria, Illinois; grandchildren Shannon Stewart Gaffney and husband Matthew of North Andover, MA; Ryan Lamay Stewart and wife Jodi of Bedford, NH; Courtney Hope Stewart of Laconia; Gabriela Rosal Sotiriou of New York City; and Tatiana Rosal Sotiriou of Paris, France; great-granddaughters Julia Hope and Arianna Alexandra Gaffney; sisters, Antonia Conides of Winston-Salem, NC and Sophie Roux of Peoria, Arizona and a brother George J. Contraros and wife Lola of Patagonia, Arizona; sisters-in-law, Bette Sotiriou of Manchester and Elaine Sotiriou of Lowell, MA.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2002 from 7-9 PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH. A Funeral Service will be held at the Greek Orthodox Church, 811 North Main Street, Laconia, NH on Thursday, April 25, 2002 at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Health and Hospice, Inc., 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
