Halsey H. Dod, Jr.

Tilton-----Halsey H. Dod, Jr., 85, of 139 Winter Street, died at the New Hampshire Veterans Home on Tuesday, August 26, 2003. Mr. Dod was the widower of Sylvia F. (Talberth) Dod who died in March, 2001.

Mr. Dod was born May 31, 1918 in Weehawken, New Jersey the son of Halsey H. & Marie (Tesdorf) Dod. He graduated from the University of Alabama.

Mr. Dod served in the U. S. Army and was a member of the 82nd and 101st Airborne involved in the Normandy Invasion during WWII. He was awarded the Distinguished Unit Badge, European Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Purple Heart, WWII Victory Medal and the American Service Medal. Mr. Dod was employed by the International Paper Co for thirty-two years, retiring in 1975.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William T. Dod and his wife, Sandy, of Merrimack, NH and Halsey H. Dod III and his wife, Ann, of Fremont, NH; four grandchildren, Betsy Dod of Merrimack, NH, Kerry Gangemi of N. Chelmsford, MA, Matthew Pitkin of Fremont, NH and Jenna Pitkin of Somersworth, NH; and one great grandchild, Alyssa Gangemi of N. Chelmsford, MA.

There will be no calling hours.

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at 2:00 PM at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New Hampshire Veterans Home, Benefit Fund-Dementia Unit, 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276.
