William F. Holbrook

Laconia, NH-----William F. Holbrook, 92, of 1358 Old North Main Street, died at  Forestview Manor,  Meredith, on Friday, April 4, 2008 after a long bout with cancer.

Born in Medford, Massachusetts on March 29, 1916 to Annie Elizabeth (Todd) and Walter A. Holbrook, Sr.,  the family moved to Amesbury, Massachusetts and Bill went through the school system there graduating from Amesbury High in 1934.

Bill went to work for the A&P Tea Co. after high school and returned to the A&P after a short time in the US Army. He retired from the A&P after 23 years ending his career with them in Laconia.

He opened Holbrook’s Furniture World & Carpet Ctr. in Keller’s Shopping Plaza. After his retirement Bill worked in sales with furniture stores in the area, most recently with Hi Fi Furniture in Belmont.

He enjoyed music and dancing with his wife Barbara. He was an avid golfer, a life long member of the Laconia County Club, a member of the NH State Super Seniors and the Kelly Green County Club of Ft. Myers, FL. He was also a member of the Laconia Rotary Club and the American Legion. Bill was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church.

Survivors include his wife Barbara (Brennan) Holbrook of Laconia; four daughters; Elizabeth Holbrook, of Ft. Myers, Florida, Sherry Bunker, of Laconia, Patricia Mercuriano, and her husband, ‘Bone’ of Wallingford, Connecticut, Kathleen Burdett and husband, Tom of West Springfield, Massachusetts; a son, William Holbrook, of Turner Falls, Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Benjamin Bunker, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire  Zachary Bunker, of  Manchester, New Hampshire, Jake Holbrook, of Somerville, Massachusetts and Kelsey Holbrook, of Manchester, Connecticut; a sister-in-law Lucille Stone, and her husband, Larry, of Watertown, Connecticut and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Olive; a brother Walter and nephews Jack and Todd all of Amesbury, Massachusetts; and his darling granddaughter Kacy Burdett of West Springfield, Massachusetts.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 from 5:00-7:00PM at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH using the Whipple Avenue entrance.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia, NH on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 10:00AM by Rev. Gary J. Kosmowski, pastor of the church.

Burial will follow in the family lot at 12:30PM at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dover, NH.
