Lee Edward Smith

Meredith-----Lee Edward Smith, 79, of 163 Meredith Center Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Saturday, September 22, 2007. 

Mr. Smith was born December 16, 1927 in Whitefield, N. H. the son of  Richard and Beulah A. (Stiles) Smith. 

Mr. Smith served in the U. S. Army.  He lived in Laconia for several years before moving to Meredith thirty-four years ago.  He was a self-employed heavy equipment operator for fifty-five years before retiring in 1991.

Mr. Smith was a lifetime member of the V. F.W. #3041 of Lancaster, NH, was a charter member of the Military Order of the Cooties, Pop Tent 3, Lancaster. He loved to restore old vehicles. He also enjoyed collecting clocks and antiquing with his wife.

Survivors include two stepsons, Alan Avery and Bryan Avery, both of South Carolina; a brother, Edward Smith, of Lancaster, N. H.; a nephew, Edward C. Smith, Jr. of Lancaster, N. H.; two nieces, Jodi Rooney and Verna White, both of Lancaster, N. H; and dear friend and neighbor Sue Blake and family of Meredith, N. H.  Mr. Smith’s wife, Joan A. ( LaCross) Smith, died a few hours following him on Sunday, September 23, 2007.

A calling hour for Mr. & Mrs. Smith will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2007 from 10:00-11:00AM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N. H.

Their Funeral Service will be held following the calling hour at 11:00AM also at the Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the family lot in Oakland Cemetery, Meredith, N. H.
