First Sgt. Richard "Pete" A. Hillsgrove

Mont Vernon---First Sgt. Richard “Pete” A. Hillsgrove, 67, of 127 Francestown Turnpike died on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at the V.A. Medical Center, Manchester N.H. after a three-month battle with cancer.

Mr. Hillsgrove was born April 21, 1940 in Wolfeboro, N. H., the son of Walter M. and Louise E. (Pike) Hillsgrove.  He was schooled in Gilmanton Iron Works and attended high school in Laconia.

Mr. Hillsgrove served forty-three years in the U. S. Armed Services from 1957 until his retirement in 2000. At the time of his death, Mr. Hillsgrove was employed as a truck driver servicing the U. S. Postal Service in Nashua, N. H.

Mr. Hillsgrove was a member of the Future Farmers of America and was also a member of the Patriot Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Jean N. (Knights) Hillsgrove, of Mont Vernon, NH; two daughters, Susanna M. Reyes, of Florida and Lt. Shannon Hoffman, of Elkton, Maryland; five sons, Keith Hillsgrove, Bruce Hillsgrove and Rick Hillsgrove all of Elkton, Maryland, Captain Tali Hillsgrove of Clermont, Florida and Sgt. Randy Hillsgrove, of Japan; a stepson, Roger “Scott” Fredette; a stepdaughter, Stacey Hill; several grandchildren; a sister, Patricia  Lique, and her husband, Ronald; a brother, Robert M. Hillsgrove, and his wife, Joann; a sister, Carolyn Rines, and her husband, George; a brother, James Hillsgrove, and his wife, Bonnie; a sister, Marjorie Durkey, and her husband, Kevin; his stepmother, Frances Hillsgrove; several nieces, nephews and cousins; a family friend, Betty Sweet, and Mr. Hillsgrove’s best friend, Bear, his dog.  Mr. Hillsgrove was predeceased by his mother, Louise E. Baker, in 2005 and by his father, Walter Merle Hillsgrove.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Service with military honors will be held in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N. H. on Friday, September 14, 2007 at 2:00pm.

Burial will be at a later date at the family lot in Smith Meeting House Cemetery, Gilmanton, N. H.
