Philip A. Roux

Gilford----Philip A. Roux, 82, of 80 Young Road, died at his home on Monday, September 11, 2006.  He was the widower of M. Claire (Roucher) Roux who died in 1991.

Mr. Roux was born June 16, 1924 in Laconia, the son of Ozias and Rose (Maltais)   Roux.  He was a lifetime resident of the Laconia/Gilford area and graduated from Laconia High School in 1943.

Mr. Roux served three years in the U. S. Navy during WWII where he served aboard the Destroyer Escott in the North Atlantic.

Mr. Roux was an Eagle Scout, an honorary life member of the Laconia Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, a life member of the Veterans of  Foreign Wars, a trustee of the Lakes Region General Hospital, a member of the Elks Pool League and a member of the Winnipesaukee Power Squadron.  He was a former director of the Laconia National Bank, the First N.H. Bank and the First Central Bank, a former President of the Winnipesaukee Ski Club and the Winnipesaukee Ski Racing Association.  He was involved in Harness Racing and was owner of the racehorse, Bambino, and was president of the SBOANH for two years.                 

Mr. Roux was a self-employed building contractor and was owner and developer of the Christmas Island Resort.

Mr. Roux was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Laconia.

Survivors include three sons, Russell P. Roux, of Colorado Springs, CO, Anthony W. Roux of Laconia and Thomas J. Roux of Gilford; a daughter, Patricia Roux Sharp, of  Knoxville, Tenn;  nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Roux, of Florida; a sister, Madeline McGrath, of Gilford and many nephews and nieces.  In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by a  son,  a granddaughter, a great grandson and by three brothers, Leo Roux, Armand Roux and Robert Roux..        

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2006 from 6:00-8:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 15, 2006 at 11:00AM at the Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave., Laconia. NH.  Rev. Adrien Longchamps, Pastor of the Church, will be the celebrant.

Burial will follow in the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia, NH

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Health & Hospice, Inc., 780 North Main Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
