Porter "Bill" W. Bickford

Belmont-----Porter “Bill” W. Bickford, 92, of 80 Federal Street, Belmont, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia Saturday September 16, 2006 surrounded by his family. He was the widower of Bernice “Bunny” (Drake) Bickford who died in 1995.

Bill was born July 28, 1914 in Gossville, NH the son of Nathan A. and Verdie (Veasey) Bickford. He had lived most of his life in Belmont.

Bill was employed as a construction foreman for Winston P. Titus for many years. In his early years he was a lumber jack.

He was a former member of the New Hampton Grange. He enjoyed the outdoors including working his farm, his garden and getting his wood cut for winter.

He enjoyed attending many local fairs where he would watch oxen and horse pulling. He was the Grand Marshall of the Belmont Old Home Day in 2004. He attended many auctions where he would meet his friends and always had a funny story or a good joke to tell.

Survivors include 4 sons Nathan A. and his wife Beverly Bickford of Frederick, MD, John A. and his wife Claire Bickford of Belmont, Edward A. and his wife Connie Bickford of Gilford and Wilbur A. Bickford and Gloria of Belmont; 2 daughters Lorraine B. and her husband Richard Hancock and Mary L. and her husband Philip Clairmont both of Belmont; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces and his loyal friend and companion his dog, Toby. Beside his parents and his wife he was pre deceased by 2 infant sons Paul W. Bickford and Ramon A. Bickford and his twin brother Wilbur A. Bickford.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday September 19, 2006 from 7-9 PM at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia using the Carriage House entrance.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday September 20, 2006 at 11:00 AM also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery New Hampton.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Laconia Savings Bank Wilbur A. Bickford Heart Surgery Fund C/O Laconia Savings Bank 62 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH 03246.
