Dorothy H. Lakeman

Laconia------Dorothy H. Lakeman, 98, of 406 Court Street and formerly of 27 Fenton Avenue, died at the St. Francis Healthcare Center on Friday, September 29, 2006.  Mrs. Lakeman was the widow of Richard S. Lakeman who died in 1987.

         Mrs. Lakeman was born November 14, 1907 in Laconia, NH the daughter of John J. and Catherine E. (McFarlin) Hughes. 

Mrs. Lakeman was a lifetime resident of Laconia.  She was employed at O’Shea’s Department Store for twenty-five years, retiring in 1988.

Mrs. Lakeman was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and was a member of the Ladies Guild.

Mrs. Lakeman was a member and former secretary of the Opechee Park Association; a member and past president of the Emblem Club #80 and a Supreme District Deputy of the State Emblem Club; a former member of Our Lady of the Lakes Ladies Guild and a past president of the Leavitt Park Community Club.         

Survivors include a son, Gerald W. Lakeman, of Hernando, Florida; twin daughters, Jean Charron, of Titusville, Florida and Joan Morin of Laconia; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three sisters, including, Lora “Molly” M. Dunleavy, one brother, and by a granddaughter, Kimberly Morin.

Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 from 4:00-7:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at 10:00AM at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia, NH by Rev. Gary Kosmowski, Pastor of the Church and Rev. Marc Drouin, Pastor of St. Michael Church, Exeter, NH.

Burial will follow in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Laconia, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kimberly Morin Scholarship c/o Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 7312, Gilford, NH 03247-7312 or the St. Francis Healthcare Center – Activities Fund, 406 Court Street, Laconia, NH.
