Paul Wetzel

Laconia----Paul Wetzel, 69, of 175 Province Street, died suddenly at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Wednesday, September 21, 2005.

Mr. Wetzel was born October 3, 1935 in Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania, the son of Leon and Elizabeth (Ermert) Wetzel. He served in the U. S. Army from 1954-1957 in Korea.

Mr. Wetzel started work with Woolworth’s in 1957 and in 1959 he was employed by Newberry’s. He was a district manager for Newberry’s and in 1984 he came to Laconia to manage the local Newberry’s for three years and then returned to Massachusetts. Upon his retirement in 1997, he returned to Laconia and started a handy-man business. He also worked for the Laconia Citizen for five years and worked part-time at Bloom’s Variety Store. During the winter, he was a volunteer at the Gunstock Ski Area. During the past school year, Mr. Wetzel had been volunteering with the LHS Drama Club, assisting with set construction.

Survivors include his wife, Rita I. (Perreault) Wetzel, of Laconia; a daughter, Kimberly McKearney, and her husband, Gary, of Rehoboth, MA; a stepson, Thomas J. Arruda, and his wife, Becky, of Richmond, VA; a daughter-in-law, Susan Arruda, of Geneva, NY; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; a brother, David Wetzel, of Smithville, New Jersey and two nieces. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Paul Charles Wetzel, in 1993 and by a stepson, William Arruda, in 2003.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2005 from 7:00-9:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH. A Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia, NH on Monday, September 26, 2005 at 11:30AM. by Rev. Adrien Longchamps, Pastor of the Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, NH Chapter, 2 Wellman Avenue, Suite 340, Nashua, NH 03064.
