Gladys Marie (Orell) Stackpole

Laconia, NH-----Gladys Marie (Orell) Stackpole, 88, of 3B Liberty Run, Laconia died suddenly at Lakes Region General Hospital on September 23, 2005.

She was born in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Alfred and Marie (LeGrand) Orell and grew up in Williamstown, Mass, where she was graduated from Williamstown High School. She studied at St. Margaret’s Hospital School of Child Nursing in Albany, N.Y. and worked for a time as a private duty nurse. She also held a position in advertising with the Beechnut Candy Company. After her marriage to William J. Stackpole, she was employed for 30 years as assistant to the manager of the Williams College Faculty House.

She was a longtime parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church in Williamstown, and a member of the Women’s Guild. She was a member of the Williamstown Auxiliary to the North Adams (Ma.)Hospital and an active volunteer of the local Community Fund.

Following her husband’s death in 1997, she moved to Laconia, N.H. to live with her daughter, Sydney Dowd. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lakes Church and for a time volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Survivors in addition to her daughter include two sons, Deacon Terry Stackpole of Easton, Md., and Dr. Christopher Stackpole of Rye, N.Y. She also leaves four grandchildren, Brendan, Peter, Thomas and Alison Stackpole, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Mervin Orell and a sister, Hazel LoPresto.

There are no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown.
