Wendell Alden Derry

Gilford, NH---Wendell Alden Derry, 82, of Lake Shore Road, died at the St. Francis Home, Laconia, on Thursday, September 15, 2005 after a long battle with cancer.

Wendell was born January 14, 1923 in Hyde Park, MA, the son of Charles T. and Helen Jacobs Derry. He was a direct descendant of John Alden and Myles Standish. He graduated from Hyde Park High School and earned a degree in business administration from Northeastern University.

Wendell was on staff at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he served as Property Officer for many years. He had a part-time electronics repair business in Randolph, MA. He also repaired electronic equipment for the Merrimack Valley School System. He was married to Alma (Forward) Derry in 1946. At the time of his death, they were married for fifty-nine years.

Wendell lived in Randolph, MA for a number of years while bringing up his children. He later moved to Sandwich, MA on Cape Cod for nine years and then lived in Gilford, NH for ten years. He and his family vacationed in New Hampton, NH for over fifty years on Lake Winona. Wendell was a Past Master of Hyde Park Lodge AF&AM and a member of Norfolk Union Lodge of Randolph, MA. He served as a Director of the MIT Credit Union and a Trustee of the Brookside Crossing Homeowners’Association. He also was a member of the Randolph (MA) Congregational Church for thirty years and served as a Trustee. He was Chairman of the Trustees of the Congregational Church of Laconia and a member of the Alden Society. He was an active member of the Laconia Elders Friendship Club.

Wendell is survived by his wife, Alma Derry, of Laconia, NH; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Greg Doyon, of Abington, MA and Linda and Mark Heminway, of Plaistow, NH and three grandchildren, Jeff and Jamie Kate Heminway and Christopher Doyon and two brothers, Paul Derry and Charles Derry, both of Massachusetts. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Priscilla Sarver.

There will be no calling hours.

A Private Funeral Service will be held and private burial will be in the family lot in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham, MA.
