Harold I. Proctor

Laconia-----Harold I. Proctor, 93, of 4 Ledgecroft Place and formerly of Spindle Point, Meredith, N.H. and Boynton Beach, Florida, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Tuesday, October 6, 2009.

Mr. Proctor was born March 20, 1916 in Belmont, Mass. the son of Harry J. and Edith A. (Oldford) Proctor. He was raised in Belmont and Milton, Mass. and was a graduate of Belmont High School.

Mr. Proctor was a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army during WWII. After his return from the military, Mr. Proctor entered Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. and earned degrees in business and business law. He lived in Westwood, Massachusetts for twenty years. He was employed at John Hancock of Boston for forty years, retiring as Vice President. After his retirement in 1974, he and his wife, Ardys, wintered in Boynton Beach, Florida and summered on Lake Winnipesaukee in Meredith, N. H.

Mr. Proctor was a former member of the Waukewan Golf Club, the Westwood, Mass. Lions Club and was former President and Team Manager of the Westwood Little League. He was a member of the John Hancock Retirement Club and the Nehoiden Lodge A. F. & A. M. of Needham, Mass. and also did volunteer tax work for AARP for many years.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Ardys (Gray) Proctor, of Meredith; a son, John M. Proctor, of Davie, Florida; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Paul Ouellette, of Center Harbor, N.H.; five grandchildren; one nephew and two nieces. In addition to his parents, Mr. Proctor was predeceased by three sisters, Ethel M. Ball, Alice E. MacInnes and Pearl Birkmaier and by a niece.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at the family lot in Oakland Cemetery, Meredith. Rev. Dr. Russell Rowland, Pastor of the First Congregational Church of Meredith, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Two Commerce Drive, Suite 110, Bedford, N.H. 03110 or to the American Heart Association, 2 Wall Street, Manchester, N.H. 03101.
