Sanbornton-----Mary E. Purtell, 70, of 44 Hermit Woods Road, died at her home on Monday, October 31, 2005.
Mrs. Purtell was born July 4, 1935 in Roxbury, MA the daughter of Simon and Delia (Caulfield) Byrne. She lived in Thornton, NH for five years before moving to Sanbornton 1.5 years ago.
Mrs. Purtell was a therapist for twelve years and in 1993 she received her Master’s Degree from Springfield College, Springfield, MA. She retired in September, 2003.
Survivors include her husband, James J. Purtell, of Sanbornton; a daughter and son-in-law, Leean and Frank Hewitt, of Sanbornton; two grandchildren, Katrina A. Shaw of Sanbornton and Jennifer Jackes of Belmont, NH; three brothers, Paul Byrne of Norwood, MA, Roger Byrne of Boston, MA and Francis Byrne of Springfield, MA; two sisters, Margaret Backeo of Kentucky and Ann Caulfield of Methuen, MA and many nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, John Byrne.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Assumption Church, Tilton, NH on Friday, November 4, 2005 at 11:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association of Franklin, 75 Chestnut Street, Franklin, NH 03235.
