Margaret "Peg" Martel

Laconia---Mrs. Margaret “Peg” (McKelvey) Martel, 82 of 91 McGrath Street died at the Lakes Region General Hospital Sunday October 23, 2005. She was the widow of Armand J. Martel who died in 1987.

Mrs. Martel was born June 30, 1923 in Berlin the daughter of Dennis P. and Marion A. (Cryans) McKelvey.

She had been a resident of Laconia since 1943.

Mrs. Martel had been employed as a clerk at the Belknap County Superior Court for 20 years retiring in 1990. She had formerly worked at the Memorial Middle School lunch program for many years.

Mrs. Martel was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and a member of the Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Opechee Park Club as well as a member of the Friendship Club. She had been a Girl Scout leader for many years. She enjoyed Line Dancing, bowling and traveling.

Mrs. Martel was a former volunteer at the American Red Cross Blood Drive and also volunteered at the St. Francis Home.

Survivors include 2 sons James L. Martel and his wife Lorrie of Gilford and Michael J. Martel and his wife June C. of Laconia; a daughter Jean Stevens and her husband Paul of Hooksett; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday October 25, 2005 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM using the Carriage House entrance of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home 164 Pleasant Street Laconia.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church 30 Church Street Laconia Wednesday October 26, 2005 at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery Laconia.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the St. Francis Home Activities Fund 406 Court Street Laconia, NH 03246.

The Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home & Cremation Services is in charge of the arrangements.
