Bernard "Archie" Charles Archambault

Laconia – Bernard “Archie” Charles Archambault, 71, of nLaconia, died on October 8, 2005 at Lakes Region General Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born on April 20, 1934 in Rutland, VT, the son of Eldege L. and Florence I. (Renaud) Archambault of Fitchburg, MA. He graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in Rutland in 1952 and served four years as a basic airman in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Archie married Patricia Joan Herf on November 25, 1954 in Cortland, NY and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2004. He worked as a retail store manager for 47 years, starting with the M.H. Fishman Company in upstate New York. During his career, he managed a variety of department stores in Rutherford, NJ, Toledo, OH, Rocky Mount, NC, Smithfield, RI, Concord, NH and Laconia, NH. Archie was store manager of Mammoth Mart, Kings Department Store, J.M. Fields, and Globe Discount Stores after moving to Laconia in 1969. Most recently, he was employed as a part-time, night manager for Bloom’s Variety Store in downtown Laconia.

Archie and Joan began their family in 1956 and had five children including: Richard L. Archambault of Wakefield, MA, Darlene A. Dunn of Chesterfield, NH, Russell A. Archambault, of Alexandria, VA, Judith A. Jennings of Holden, ME, and Randall G. Archambault of Alton, NH.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Laconia, an amateur artist, an avid golfer, and a quiet family man. He was beloved by his friends and family and is survived by his wife Joan, their five children, and ten grandchildren.

Calling hours are scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH using the Carriage House entrance.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church Wednesday October 12, 2005 at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will follow immediately at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Laconia.

Flowers are not requested, but friends and family can make memorial donations to a newly established Bernard C. Archambault Memorial Scholarship Fund which will provide financial assistance to high school seniors at Laconia High School and Mount St. Joseph Academy pursuing higher education and careers in the field of visual and performing arts.
