Wendell G. Briggs

Franklin, NH-----Wendell G. Briggs, 79, of Baldwin Street and formerly of Lakeport, NH died on Thursday, October 17, 2002 at Genesis Eldercare Network-Mtn. Ridge Center, Franklin, NH.

Mr. Briggs was born July 30, 1923 in St. Johnsbury, VT, the son of Trudell and Avis (Lawrence) Briggs.

Wendell grew up and lived in the East Concord and St. Johnsbury areas. He moved to Tilton, NH in 1964. Wendell deeply cared for his children and family. He had a proud work ethic beginning with a private egg business in his teens. He worked at the long defunct Chair Factory in St. Johnsbury, was a long distance driver for St. Johnsbury Trucking Company, owned his own logging business for many years and was a skilled heavy equipment operator both in the St. Johnsbury and Laconia, NH areas. Wendell was a "jack of all trades". During "mud season", Wendell often worked as a carpenter specializing in remodeling and updating kitchens, and as a plumber for Brooks Plumbing and Heating. Wendell was a very hard and dependable worker.

Wendell's interests included hunting and fishing, boating and dancing. He enjoyed camping and traveling having visited all but two states in the United States and Mexico. When camping, his favorite activity was cooking which included "baked in the ground" dinners like bean hole beans, lobster and clam bakes, and even roast turkey.

Survivors include a son, Donald Briggs of Rutland, Vermont; two daughters, Shirley Briggs. of Monroe, NH and Ruth Briggs of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren, Herbert Little of E. Burke, VT; Anita Drown of North Concord, VT; Teresa Litchfield of Goffstown, NH; Todd Fenoff of Mooresville, N C; Dominic Parker of Mooresville, NC; three great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces; his first wife, Charlena (Powell) McDufford; and his former wife, Barbara Briggs, of Lakeport, NH. He was predeceased by a brother, Lyndol Briggs.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2002 at 2:00 PM at the family lot in Union Cemetery, Laconia, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of NH, 9 Cedarwood Dr. Unit 12, Bedford, NH 03110, the Arthritis Foundation, Northern New England Chapter, 6 Chenell Drive, Suite 260, Concord, NH 03301 or to the American Heart Association, Heart Gifts Processing Center, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 143220-3049.
