Laconia-----Virginia H. Smith, 92, of 21 Harvest Lane and formerly a longtime resident of Wakefield, Mass., died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Wednesday, November 5, 2008. Mrs. Smith was the widow of Robert W. Smith who died in 1996.

Mrs. Smith was born March 25, 1916 in Winchester, Mass., the daughter of James and Mary F. (McCraven) Shaw. She resided in Massachusetts for many years before moving to their summer home in Bridgewater, N.H. In 1985, she moved to Laconia.

Mrs. Smith was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lakes Church, Lakeport.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, Donald W. Smith of Hebron and Gregory L. Smith and his wife, Judith, of Bridgewater; a daughter, Gretchen Gilpatric, and her husband, Russell, of Bridgewater; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Smith was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Hersey and Marjorie Brierly and a brother, Robert Shaw.

There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at our Lady of the Lakes Church, 50 Washington St., Lakeport, N.H. on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 10:00AM by Rev. George Soberick, Pastor of the Church.

Burial will be held at a later date in the family lot in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association-Manchester, NH Office, 249 Canal Street, Manchester, N.H. 03101.
