Gilford-----Edward C. Davis, 89 of Gunstock Hill Road, died in Laconia after a short illness on Saturday November 1, 2008. He was the widower of Natalie (Haddock) Davis who died August 7, 2007.

Mr. Davis was born November 25, 1918 in Canterbury, NH the son of Frank S. and Nellie (Philbrook) Davis.

Mr. Davis had served in the US Marine Corps during WWII from 1940-1945 in Bismarck Archipelago, the Philippines and Okinawa. He was a member of the Lakes Region Marine Corps League. He had been a resident of Gilford for the past 65 years.

Mr. Davis was employed by the State of New Hampshire Highway Dept. for many years including several years with the NH Safety Patrol retiring in 1981. He had been a Life Time Member and Past King Lion of the Laconia-Gilford Lions Club and was also a member of the Lions Club International and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.

Mr. Davis was also a member and Past President of the Belknap County Sportsman Club and a member of The Lakes Region Scholarship Committee and had served on the Town of Gilford Budget Committee. He enjoyed carpentry, growing roses, spending time with the family, hunting, fishing and outdoor sports.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Steven J. and Ginger Davis, of Londonderry, NH; a daughter, Janet D. Allison, of Wilmington, MA; three grandchildren, Thomas E. Allison and his wife, Susan Spirlet-Allison, of Westport, MA, Scott C. Davis and his wife, Anne, of Haverhill, NH, and Janet H. Damaske and her husband, John, of Malden, MA; a great granddaughter, Heidi G. Davis, of Haverhill, NH; several nephews and nieces. Beside his parents and wife he was predeceased by a brother and 3 sisters.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday November 4, 2008 from 3:00-6:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, NH.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday November 5, 2008 at 11:00AM at the Gilford Community Church, Potter Hill Road, Gilford, NH. Rev. Michael Graham, Pastor of the church will officiate.
Family burial will be in the family lot at Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford, NH.
